How To: Start a capsule wardrobe

Make a little amount of clothes go a long way

The long hot sticky days of summer are making getting dressed like some kind of torture when all I really want to do is parade around in no pants.

Thankfully I can take comfort in one brilliant little act of pre-planning that is still providing me with easy outfit ideas.

The capsule wardrobe.

You’ll recall my last post which featured my tiny collection of the few items I was going to rely on for outfits, well I’m still going with it. Okay so I might have added 4 new pieces as you can see above but I still haven’t regurgitated an outfit and it’s week two.

Sometimes, we can get so overwhelmed by how much ‘stuff’ we own that the simple act of getting dressed can result in dead minutes spent wondering why we have nothing to wear!

Make it easy on yourself, spend a Sunday evening and pick 3 tops, 3 bottoms, 1 dress, 1 over piece (it is summer after all), a couple pairs of shoes and 2 pieces of jewellery and see just how many new outfits you can come up with each day, then at the end of the week add a couple of new pieces and rotate.

If you have a washing machine, you can make a capsule wardrobe work.

Just be sure to keep your outfits interesting by picking a new capsule when you’re out of new combinations and make sure that at least one bottom and top are a plain colour – it makes combining prints far easier!
